Sign language is native language of the deaf people. It is wise to try to find a deaf teacher to teach sign language in your country.
Then you
can think about the course: How you are going to do it? For example, how
many hours, in what level and what teaching methods to use? Is there individual
teaching, pair, or group work, and how to give feedback and get peer feedback?
Remember the influence of the group.
Then you need
to think about what to teach. Look at the study plan, curriculum, make the preparations,
mind the cultures and differences, think about evaluation and assessment.
The clear
aim and goals are good for students. But do not give too much as a ready models.
Efficient way of learning is like giving students a net with which to fish, not
the fish themselves.
Then you
can plan materials (diverse use of materials, facilities, self-made or
ready-made). When you make these plans, think about students. Who are they,
what is their background, profession, skills, age, heterogencity and motivation?
Why they are there, what are their interests, expectations, and do they have compulsory/voluntary
orientation to learning?
When you
plan the course timing, think about the periods and practicing between the
sessions and homework. And finally, where you are going to do it? Places (home,
clubs, university) or is it blended learning with on-line sessions or videos.
